Car accidents: Speeding and DUI factors in fatal crash

On Behalf of | Aug 2, 2018 | Car Accidents |

Motor vehicle crashes occur for numerous reasons. Some car accidents are preventable while others may be simply beyond a driver’s control. When an accident is preventable, it usually occurs due to the negligence of one or more drivers. Negligent drivers typically are responsible for the costs of the accident and can be held liable, depending on individual crash circumstances. Authorities believe that a recent Florida accident was preventable and report that alcohol likely contributed to the deadly crash.

The two-vehicle accident occurred late at night and involved five different people. One of the vehicles was speeding and, in the process, struck a second vehicle from behind. The impact from the first vehicle resulted in the second vehicle traveling off the road and overturning.

Sadly, the 24-year-old driver of the second vehicle and one of her passengers were killed as a result of the serious injuries they suffered. The second vehicle contained two other female passengers that also suffered serious injuries. The 36-year-old driver of the first vehicle suffered serious injuries as well and is currently being medically treated. Authorities suspect that the male driver may have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sadly, car accidents such as this one are often preventable. Documentation and data over the years confirm that driving under the influence of alcohol and other impairing substances is dangerous and life-threatening. Families of deceased victims, and injured victims, may find it helpful to speak with a Florida attorney when confronted with the often overwhelming aftermath of medical expenses, car damage, insurance claims and burial expenses for those who are deceased.
