Recently, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released a statement announcing the death of an employee who worked as a bailiff. The woman died as the result of injuries sustained in an accident caused by a drunk driver, leaving her two teenage children without their mother. Motor vehicle accidents like this underline the dangers and grave consequences of drunk driving.

According to a report of the accident from Florida Highway Patrol, the accident was the result of an intoxicated driver on the road in the early hours of the morning. She then crashed her vehicle into a Chevy Tahoe that was carrying four people. The impact of the crash caused the driver of the Tahoe to lose control of the vehicle and turn over. It also crossed several lanes of traffic.

The driver of the Tahoe, the husband of the deceased, became trapped in the wreckage after the impact. He is currently suffering from critical injuries but is expected to survive. The female passenger, the bailiff, died later after being placed on life support. The two teenagers in the car suffered minor injuries. At the time of the accident, the family was driving home after attending a high school football game.

Drunk driving is one of the most common reasons for motor vehicle accidents on Florida roads. Often, it is innocent people and their loved ones who suffer the consequences of this irresponsible action. Injured victims and grieving loved ones may have grounds to pursue compensation through a civil claim after a drunk driving accident.
